Who Wrote All I Want For Christmas

Alright, let's dive into the jolly mystery of who penned the Christmas classic, All I Want For Christmas. Grab a cup of hot cocoa, and let's get started!

Meet the Masterminds

So, who's behind this festive tune? We've got two superstars: George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. Yep, you heard it right! The dynamic duo who brought us Wham! back in the day.

Now, before you start humming Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, let's rewind to the late 80s. George and Andrew were taking a break from their pop sensation and decided to write a Christmas song. Little did they know, they were about to create a holiday staple!

Inspiration Strike

Legend has it, the pair were chilling at Andrew's place in Highgate, London. George was noodling around on the piano, and All I Want For Christmas started to take shape. It was like magic!

George wanted to write a song that was different from the usual Christmas tunes. Something that would make people feel good, you know? And boy, did he nail it!

Recording the Hit

With the song written, it was time to get into the studio. George and Andrew recorded the track in just a few days. Can you believe it? Talk about a Christmas miracle!

They brought in some of their talented pals to help out. Shirlie and Pepsi from Wham!'s backing group, the Pepsi & Shirlie duo, provided harmonies. And let's not forget about the legendary Phil Ramocon on drums!

Rejected, Then Redemption

Here's where things get a bit crazy. George and Andrew took their new song to their record label, Sony. They loved it, but they rejected it! I know, right? What were they thinking?

But fear not, Christmas lovers! The song found its way to a small independent label, Columbia Records. They picked it up, and the rest is history!

Fast Forward to Today

Since its release in 1984, All I Want For Christmas has become a Christmas anthem. It's been covered by countless artists, from Mariah Carey to Michael Bublé. And let's not forget the iconic music video with George as a cute, curly-haired elf!

Fun fact: The song has even inspired a movie! In 2017, All I Want For Christmas Is You hit the big screen, telling the story of a young girl who just wants to meet Santa. How's that for a Christmas miracle?
