Hey there, curious mind! You've stumbled upon a question that's as old as the second Monday in October - "What's closed on Columbus Day?" Now, don't you go rolling your eyes just yet. Stick around, 'cause we're about to turn this mundane query into a fun little adventure.
First Things First: What's in a Name?
Before we dive into the closures, let's clear the air about this holiday's name. In some parts of the US, it's called Indigenous Peoples' Day, a nod to the native folks who were here way before Columbus set sail. So, depending on where you are, you might be celebrating a different story.
Now, Let's Talk Closures!
Alright, you're here for the nitty-gritty. Here's a quick rundown of what you might find closed:
Must Read
- Government Offices: Uncle Sam takes a day off, so federal, state, and local offices might be closed. But remember, this can vary by location.
- Schools : Many schools are closed, giving kids a day off. Teachers, on the other hand, might be planning lessons about, well, you know, the real story of this holiday.
- Banks: Most banks will be closed, so no depositing that week's allowance. But ATMs will still be there, ready to dispense cash.
- Post Offices: The USPS takes a break, so no mail delivery or pickups. But packages will still be delivered by other carriers.
But here's the fun part: not everything shuts down. Many businesses see it as a great opportunity to attract customers. So, you might find:
- Stores: Many retail stores are open, ready to cash in on any last-minute shopping sprees.
- Restaurants: Eateries are open, serving up specials to hungry holiday revelers.
- Museums and Cultural Centers: Some might be open, offering a chance to learn about the indigenous cultures that were here first.
Why Should You Care?
You might be thinking, "Who cares what's closed on Columbus Day?" Well, let me tell you, it's all about making the most of what you've got. Whether you're looking for a day off, a chance to learn, or a great deal at the mall, knowing what's open and closed can make your day.

Stay curious, my friend. The world's a fascinating place, and every day's an adventure. Happy exploring!
