Will Sims Age Up On Their Own

So, there I was, playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons the other day, trying to catch a pesky tarantula that kept evading me. I'd been playing for a couple of weeks, and my little island was starting to look pretty darn nice, if I do say so myself. But then, I noticed something strange. My resident villagers, who were once young and full of energy, were starting to age up on their own. I mean, I hadn't even interacted with them in a while, and suddenly, they were all grown up and moving out!

Now, I'm not one to complain about a game doing its thing, but this got me thinking. Are our beloved Sims in The Sims series going to do the same? Will they just... age up on their own, whether we want them to or not?

So, what's the deal with Sims aging up?

For those of you who are new to the Sims franchise, let me give you a quick rundown. In The Sims, your little digital people, or Sims, have a lifespan. They start as babies, grow into children, then teens, young adults, adults, and finally, elders. Now, in previous games, you had to age up your Sims manually. You'd click on them, choose 'Age Up', and bam! They'd grow older. But what about now?

In The Sims 4, things have changed a bit. Sims will indeed age up on their own, but it's not as sudden or as mysterious as what happened to my poor Animal Crossing villagers. Here's how it works:

Automatic Aging

In The Sims 4, your Sims will age up automatically every seven days. That's right, folks. Whether you're playing or not, your Sims are ticking away the days until they reach the next life stage. Now, you might be thinking, "But what if I want to stop them from aging up?" Well, my friend, that's where things get interesting.

Controlling the Aging Process

While Sims will age up automatically, there are ways to control this process. For instance, you can age up your Sims manually at any time. Just click on them, choose 'Age Up', and they'll skip ahead to the next life stage. But here's the kicker - you can also prevent them from aging up. If you don't want your little Sim to grow up just yet, you can pause their aging process. They'll stay in their current life stage until you decide to let them age up again.

Now, you might be wondering, "Why would I want to pause my Sim's aging?" Well, there are a few reasons. Maybe you want to keep your Sim as a child for as long as possible because you love their cute little outfits. Maybe you're trying to complete a challenge that requires your Sim to stay in a specific life stage. Or maybe, just maybe, you're like me and you're not ready to say goodbye to your Sim's youth quite yet.

But what about those pesky aging days?

Even if you pause your Sim's aging, they'll still accumulate aging days. These days represent the time your Sim would have spent aging if they hadn't been paused. Once your Sim has enough aging days, they'll automatically age up, even if you've paused their aging. So, while you can control when your Sim ages up, you can't stop it forever.

Now, I know what you're thinking. "This is all well and good, but what about my poor, neglected Sims who I haven't played with in ages? Are they just... sitting there, getting older and older?" Well, my friend, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that your neglected Sims aren't just sitting there, twiddling their thumbs. They're living their lives, making friends, and even finding love - all without you. The bad news? They're still aging up automatically, whether you're there to witness it or not.

So, should you be worried about your Sims aging up?

In short, no. While it might be a little jarring to see your baby Sim suddenly turn into a teenager while you weren't looking, there's no need to panic. The automatic aging system in The Sims 4 is designed to give you control over your Sim's life, not take it away. You can pause their aging, skip ahead to the next life stage, or let them age up naturally. It's all up to you.

And who knows? You might even find that you enjoy the surprise of seeing your Sim suddenly age up. Maybe they'll come home from school with a new friend, or maybe they'll finally confess their feelings to that special someone. The world of The Sims is full of surprises, and sometimes, the best ones happen when you're not expecting them.

So, my fellow Sims enthusiasts, don't worry about your little digital people growing up. Embrace it. After all, as they say, "You're only young once, but you can be immature forever."
