Who Voice Acts Ellie In The Last Of Us

So, there I was, minding my own business in the gaming section of my local electronics store, when I overheard a couple of teens discussing The Last of Us. One of them said, "You know, Ellie's voice actress is actually a dude?" I nearly choked on my energy drink. I mean, come on, that's like finding out Santa isn't real. But hey, curiosity piqued, I decided to dig deeper. Who's the mysterious voice behind Ellie?

Enter Ashley Johnson

Alright, so let's rewind a bit. Ashley Johnson, our Ellie, wasn't always a voice actress. She started her career as a child actress, appearing in shows like Growing Pains and Roseanne. But it was her voice that caught the attention of The Last of Us creators. Neil Druckmann, the game's director, wanted a voice that could convey both strength and vulnerability. Ashley's audition tape must've been a knockout because she landed the role.

Now, you might be wondering, "Why didn't they just cast a young woman?" Well, here's where things get interesting. Druckmann wanted the voice to match Ellie's character, not her age. He wanted a voice that could grow with Ellie, evolve with her. And Ashley, despite being in her late 20s when she started, brought that depth and range to the table.

Behind the Scenes

Ashley's not just a voice; she's a full-fledged part of the The Last of Us family. She worked closely with Druckmann and the team, helping to shape Ellie's character and story. She even provided motion capture for Ellie's facial expressions. Imagine that - a grown woman acting out a teenage girl's emotions, all while hiding her own voice. Talk about dedication!

But here's where it gets even more fascinating. Ashley's not the only one pulling double duty. Troy Baker, who voices Joel, Ellie's mentor, is also a grown man. So, we've got two adults playing teenagers, and it's working beautifully. It just goes to show that great acting knows no age or gender boundaries.

Ashley's Impact

Ashley's portrayal of Ellie has been nothing short of extraordinary. She's brought depth, emotion, and vulnerability to a character who could've easily been one-dimensional. Ellie's journey is a rollercoaster of emotions, and Ashley navigates it with such skill that you can't help but feel every twist and turn.

But here's the thing, folks. Ashley's not just playing a character; she's becoming a symbol. Ellie's story is one of resilience, love, and loss. It's a story that resonates with so many, regardless of age or gender. And Ashley's portrayal is a big part of why that story feels so real, so raw.
