What Year Did Will Smith Slap Chris Rock

So, I was at the grocery store the other day, right? Standing in line, minding my own business, when suddenly the cashier asks, "You know what happened at the Oscars last year?" I mean, who doesn't know, am I right?

Now, I'm not one to gossip, but this is the most talked-about moment in recent Hollywood history. I'm talking about the time Will Smith walked up to Chris Rock on stage and... well, you know. Slapped him. Live on TV. In front of millions. Yeah, that moment.

But here's the thing, I've been trying to remember the year this all went down, and it's been bugging me. I mean, it feels like just yesterday, but then again, time flies, you know? So, let's dive in, shall we?

Rewinding to March 27, 2022

That's right, folks. The 94th Academy Awards, the night that'll go down in history for more than just the best picture winner. It was a regular awards show until... well, until it wasn't.

Chris Rock, the comedian hosting the ceremony, made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. Now, I won't repeat the joke here, but let's just say it didn't go down too well with Will Smith. In fact, it didn't go down well at all. Will Smith, the actor known for his chill demeanor, walked up on stage, and... well, you've probably seen the video a hundred times by now.

The most memorable moments in awards show history

Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. Live. On. Stage. And then, he won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in "King Richard". Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions, huh?

Why Does This Matter?

You might be thinking, "Why does this matter? It's just a slap." But it's not just a slap. It's a moment that sparked conversations about respect, boundaries, and professionalism. It's a moment that reminded us that even the most composed among us have our limits. And it's a moment that, let's face it, was pretty darn shocking.

Plus, it's not every day you see something like this at an awards show. I mean, can you imagine if this happened at the Grammys? Or the Emmys? The water cooler talk would be insane.

So, there you have it. The year Will Smith slapped Chris Rock was 2022. Mark it down, folks. It's a moment in history that'll be remembered for years to come. And the next time you're at the grocery store, you can confidently answer the cashier's question. You're welcome.
