You've probably heard someone say, "You're the apple of my eye," right? It's a sweet compliment, but what does it really mean? Let's dive in, shall we?

So, what's the deal with apples?

Well, first off, it's not about the fruit. The phrase comes from old English, where 'apple' was used to describe the pupil of the eye. Fancy, huh?

Think about it, an apple is small, round, and precious. Just like your pupil, which is tiny, circular, and super important for your vision. So, when someone calls you their 'apple,' they're saying you're precious to them, right at the center of their world.

But why stop at eyes?

You might be thinking, 'Why not use other fruits?' Great question! Turns out, we did. In the 16th century, people used 'cherry' to describe the pupil. But 'apple' stuck around, maybe because it just sounds sweeter?

And here's a fun fact for you: In some dialects, 'apple' was also used to describe the testicles. But let's keep this conversation classy, yeah?
