What Does A Fig Look Like Inside

So, there I was, in the middle of my usual morning routine, when I realized I had no idea what the inside of a fig looked like. I mean, I've seen them from the outside, all wrinkly and brown, but what's going on inside? Are they like tiny, fruit-filled caves? Or maybe they're more like a bustling city, with little fruit streets and alleyways? I decided it was high time I found out.

Now, I could have just Googled it, but where's the fun in that? I mean, have you ever tried to explain to your grandma why you're staring at your phone, looking at pictures of cut-open figs? "Oh, it's just research, Grandma. I'm writing an article about it." Yeah, right. She'd probably think I've gone all fruity on her.

So, I did what any curious, slightly odd person would do. I bought a bunch of figs and started slicing. And you know what? It's like they say, "Don't judge a fig by its cover."

It's a Fruit City in There

Alright, so maybe not a city, but it's certainly not just a blob of fruitiness either. When you cut into a fig, you'll find a network of tiny, little fruit streets. Okay, maybe not streets, but you get the idea. It's like a little fruit maze in there. The flesh is a beautiful, deep purple, and it's dotted with tiny, crunchy seeds. They're not like the seeds in an apple, mind you. These are tiny, like little fruit specks.

And the texture? Well, it's not like anything else. It's soft, but not mushy. It's almost like a cross between a peach and a grape. It's a bit of a surprise, really. You expect it to be all dry and wrinkly on the inside too, but no, it's a party in there.

But Why the Wrinkles?

You might be wondering, "Why the heck are figs all wrinkly on the outside?" Well, it turns out, it's not just for aesthetic purposes. Figs are actually quite delicate fruits. They're full of water, but they don't have a thick skin to hold it all in. So, as they ripen, the water evaporates, and the skin wrinkles. It's like they're giving us a little warning, "Hey, I'm ripe, but I'm also a bit fragile."

So, next time you see a fig, don't be put off by its wrinkly exterior. It's got a whole world of fruitiness going on inside. And who knows, maybe one day, we'll all be able to explore fig cities in VR. Now that's a future I can get behind.
