The Lady With The Alligator Purse Book

Ever felt like you're carrying the weight of the world in your purse? Well, meet the lady who took that literally and turned it into a quirky, inspiring tale. Let me spin you a yarn about the Lady With The Alligator Purse.

Meet the Lady

Picture this: a sunny day in New Orleans, 1983. A woman, let's call her Louise, was walking down the street, her purse clutched tightly under her arm. Nothing unusual, right? Except, this wasn't your average purse. It was a bright green, scaly, alligator-skin number, complete with a snapping jaw for a clasp.

Now, Louise wasn't your typical fashionista. She was a librarian, a quiet, unassuming woman with a passion for books and a secret love for all things peculiar. The alligator purse was her way of bringing a bit of fun into her everyday life.

From Purse to Book

One day, a curious child asked Louise about her unique purse. She spun a tale about an alligator who loved books so much, he carried a library in his mouth. The child was enchanted, and thus, the Lady With The Alligator Purse story was born.

Word spread, and soon, Louise was regaling children all over New Orleans with her whimsical tale. It wasn't long before a local author, Susan Middleton Elya, heard the story and saw its potential. She teamed up with artist Lou Fancher, and together, they turned Louise's tale into a charming picture book.
