My Dog Killed A Mouse But Didn't Eat It

So, there I was, minding my own business, when I hear this god-awful ruckus coming from the backyard. I mean, it's not like I wasn't expecting some drama, living with a dog like Max. The furball's got more energy than a toddler on espresso. But this was next level.

I rush outside, and there's Max, standing over this tiny, lifeless body. I mean, it was like something out of a nature documentary, but, you know, in my backyard. I'm thinking, "Oh no, did he finally catch that squirrel he's been chasing for months?" But no, it's a mouse. A tiny, little mouse.

Now, I know what you're thinking. "Why didn't you just let him eat it? Dogs love mice, right?" Well, let me tell you, I've seen Max with a squeaky toy. The last thing I wanted was to see him with a real squeaky... thing. Plus, I've got a cat. You think I want her catching a taste for rodents too?

Operation: Disposal

So, I'm standing there, trying to figure out how to handle this situation. Max is looking up at me, all proud, like he's just brought home the bacon. I'm like, "Good boy, Max. Now, how about we make this disappear?"

I grab a shovel from the shed, and Max, he thinks we're going on an adventure. He's running around, wagging his tail, while I'm trying to dig a hole big enough for this tiny, tiny mouse. I mean, it's not like I was burying a body or something. Right? Right.

Finally, I get the hole dug. I look at Max, he looks at me, and I swear, he's thinking, "You're not seriously going to put it in there, are you?" But I do. I scoop it up, drop it in, and start filling the hole. Max just watches, like he can't quite believe what's happening.

Max, The Mouse Whisperer

Now, you'd think that would be the end of it. But no, not with Max. The next day, I'm out in the yard, and I hear this soft little squeak. I look around, and there's Max, nose to the ground, following some invisible trail. He leads me right back to the spot where we buried the mouse.

I'm thinking, "No way. There's no way that little guy is still alive." But then, I hear it again. A soft, tiny squeak. I look at Max, and he looks at me, and I swear, he's saying, "I told you I didn't kill it, Mom." I mean, the dog's got a conscience, who knew?

So, there we were, Max and me, standing over this tiny, little grave, listening to this tiny, little mouse. I was like, "Max, you've got to finish what you started, buddy." But he just looked at me, all sad-eyed, like he was saying, "But Mom, it's not my fault he's still alive." I mean, the dog's got empathy, who knew?

In the end, I had to call animal control. They came, they dug up the mouse, and they took it away. Max watched the whole thing, looking all sad and guilty. I mean, the dog's got remorse, who knew?

So, that's my story. My dog killed a mouse, but he didn't eat it. He just buried it and felt bad about it. I mean, who needs a dog with a conscience, right? I mean, it's not like he's going to start paying the bills or something. Right?

Anyway, that's my tale. I hope it made you laugh. Or at least smile. Because, you know, life with a dog. It's never boring, that's for sure. Until next time, folks. Stay wild. Stay weird. And keep your dogs away from the mice.
