How Old Is Maomao In Apothecary Diaries

Ever found yourself curious about the age of your favorite anime characters? Today, we're diving into the world of "Apothecary Diaries" to find out: just how old is Maomao?

Meet Maomao

For those new to the series, Maomao is our protagonist, a clever and resourceful apothecary working in the imperial court. She's known for her quick wit, sharp tongue, and impressive medical knowledge. But just how many years of wisdom does she bring to the table?

Clues in the Anime

If you've been watching the anime, you might have picked up on some subtle hints about Maomao's age. In the first season, she mentions that she started working as an apothecary at the age of 15. Now, let's do some math. The series is set during the early years of Emperor Jōkō's reign, which was around the late 8th century. If we assume the anime follows a linear timeline, and Maomao started working at 15, we can estimate her age during the events of the series.

However, the anime doesn't provide a specific year or a clear passage of time. So, while we can't pinpoint an exact age, we can make an educated guess. Let's say the anime covers about two years of Maomao's life. If she started at 15, she would be around 17 or 18 during the events of the series.

Delving into the Manga

For a more concrete answer, let's turn to the manga, where author Narumi Kakinouchi provides a bit more detail. In chapter 14, Maomao mentions that she's 18 years old. Bingo! There you have it. Maomao is 18 years old in "Apothecary Diaries".
