Roxanne's Echo: How Many Times Does She Sing in "Roxanne"?

Ever found yourself belting out "Roxanne" at the top of your lungs, wondering just how many times the titular character's name gets dropped in the iconic Police song? Well, grab your imaginary microphone, because we're about to dive into that very question. Let's set the stage, shall we?

Released in 1978, "Roxanne" is a staple in any self-respecting music lover's playlist. It's a song that's as much a part of our cultural fabric as jeans and pizza. But have you ever stopped to count how many times Sting croons, "Roxanne"? Let's find out!

Counting Roxannes

Alright, let's break it down. The song has three verses, and in each verse, Sting sings "Roxanne" twice. So, that's already six times right there. But wait, there's more!

Then there's the chorus, where the name "Roxanne" is repeated a whopping seven times. And we can't forget the bridge, where it makes another appearance. So, let's add those up: 6 (from the verses) + 7 (from the chorus) + 1 (from the bridge) = 14 times!

But wait, there's more! (Yes, we're channeling our inner infomercial host here.) The song also has an instrumental section where the name "Roxanne" is spelled out in Morse code. That's another 6 times, bringing our total to 20!

Now that we've counted, let's talk about how "Roxanne" has permeated pop culture. From being sampled in countless songs (hello, "Roxanne" by Arizona Zervas) to being referenced in movies and TV shows, it's clear that this song is a cultural phenomenon.

Did you know that "Roxanne" was inspired by Sting seeing a prostitute named Roxanne in Paris? The song was initially titled "Roxanne, You Don't Have to Put Out," but the band's manager wisely suggested a slight title change.
