First Things First: What's That Smell?

Now, let's talk about wind. It's the skunk's best friend and worst enemy. On a calm day, you might smell a skunk up to a mile away. But when the wind picks up, that range can seriously increase.

In fact, there are records of skunk spray being detected over 20 miles away! That's like smelling your neighbor's cooking from two states over. Impressive, huh?

Why So Far?

You might be wondering why skunk spray travels so far. Well, it's all about survival. Skunks use their spray as a defense mechanism. The farther it travels, the more likely it is to warn off potential predators.

Plus, that smell sticks around. Skunk spray can linger for weeks, even months. It's like the world's worst perfume. No wonder skunks don't have many friends in the animal kingdom!
