What's the Deal with That Table?

First things first, that table you're thinking of is called the Altar. It's like the VIP section of the church, where all the action happens. Now, let's talk about that phrase. It's from the Bible, in 1 Corinthians 11:24. Jesus said it during the Last Supper, right before he broke bread and said, "This is my body, broken for you."

Why the Big Deal?

So, why's it such a big deal? Well, it's all about remembrance, folks! It's like when you have a birthday party and you blow out candles, making a wish. The 'Do This' part is like that wish - it's a command to remember Jesus' sacrifice. It's a moment to pause, reflect, and give thanks.

Now, you might be thinking, "That's all well and good, but what's with the table?" Great question! The Altar, or the Table of the Lord, is where the magic happens. It's where the bread and wine are blessed and transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ, during the Eucharist. Pretty neat, huh?

Quirky Facts and Fun Details

Alright, let's get a little weird and wonderful. Did you know that the Altar cloth is often made of silk? Fancy, right? It's not just for looks, though. Silk doesn't absorb moisture, so it keeps the Altar looking fresh and clean. Plus, it's a nod to the Shroud of Turin, the cloth that's said to have covered Jesus' body after his death.

And here's a fun one - the Altar should be made of stone. Why? Because stone is solid, unchanging, and represents Christ's unchanging nature. Marble is a popular choice, but some churches go all out with granite or even marble from ancient Rome!
