Do I Italicize Article Titles In Mla

Hey there, curious mind! Ever found yourself staring at an article title, wondering if it should be all fancy and italicized? You're not alone! Let's dive into the world of MLA style and find out if we should be giving our article titles a makeover.

First things first: what's MLA style?

Imagine MLA style as the cool kid at school who's all about consistency and clarity. It's a set of guidelines that helps us format our papers, cite our sources, and make our writing look super sharp. And yes, it's named after that cool kid's dad, Modern Language Association guy.

Now, let's talk titles!

You've got your article title, and you're dying to know if it should be italicized. Well, grab your highlighter, because here's where things get interesting!

In the MLA world, we've got two types of titles: book titles and article titles. And guess what? They get treated differently. Can you feel the suspense? Let's break it down!

Book titles: the italic gang

Books are like the rockstars of the literary world, so they get the star treatment. When you're talking about a book in your paper, you should italicize the title. Think of it like giving the book a standing ovation in print.

For example, if you're writing about Pride and Prejudice, you'd italicize the title to show it some love. But what about articles? Let's find out!

Article titles: the non-italic crew

Articles might not get the italic treatment, but they're still pretty important! When you're mentioning an article in your paper, you should put the title in quotation marks. It's like giving the article a friendly nod instead of a standing ovation.

Let's say you're writing about an article called "The Curious Case of the Italicized Article Title". You'd write it like this: "The Curious Case of the Italicized Article Title" by Jane Doe.

But wait, there's more!

You might be thinking, "What about movies, TV shows, or songs? Do they get italicized too?" Great question! Here's a quick rundown:

Mla Format Italicize Quotes

• Movies and TV shows: Italicize them, just like books. They're the rockstars of the screen, after all!
• Songs: Put song titles in quotation marks, just like articles. They might be the stars of the music world, but they're still part of the album's ensemble.

Isn't that just the most fascinating thing you've learned all day? I can see the curiosity spark in your eyes, and I love it!

So, why does any of this matter?

Using the right formatting shows that you're a pro at MLA style. It makes your writing look polished, and it helps your readers understand what you're talking about. Plus, it's just plain fun to learn these quirky rules!

Now that you're an expert on italicizing article titles, go forth and conquer the world of MLA style! And remember, if you ever find yourself in doubt, just ask yourself: "Would the MLA cool kid do this?" Then do the opposite. (Kidding! Sort of.)
