So, there I was, cruising down the highway, tunes blasting, sun roof open, wind in my hair. Life was good. Until...
Until, I mean, I felt this thud. Like someone had dropped a bowling ball onto my car. I mean, what even? I glance in the rearview, expecting to see a semi-truck or a meteorite, something that could explain this sudden impact. But nope, just an empty highway stretching out behind me.
I pull over, heart pounding like I've just run a marathon. I get out, expecting to see a dent the size of Texas on my poor car. But no, nothing. I mean, nothing. Not a scratch, not a dent, not even a tiny ding. I'm starting to think I imagined the whole thing. Maybe it was a sonic boom? A tiny earthquake?

I'm standing there, scratching my head, when I hear this beep. Like, a little electronic beep. I look around, but there's nothing. No cars, no trucks, just me and my car and the endless highway. I'm starting to think I've lost it. Maybe I hit my head on the sunroof or something.
Then I see it. A tiny, blinking light on the side of the road. I walk over, and there it is. A little black box, about the size of a pack of cards. It's beeping. I mean, it's really beeping. Like, it's having a beeping party and it invited every beep in town.
I pick it up, and suddenly, the beeping stops. I mean, it just stops. Like it was waiting for me to pick it up so it could take a break. I turn it over in my hands, trying to figure out what it is. It's not a phone, it's not a camera, it's not anything I've ever seen before. I mean, it's not even made of anything I've ever seen before. It's like, some sort of alien metal or something.
I'm standing there, holding this mysterious beeping box, when a car pulls up behind me. It's a cop. I mean, of course it is. Because why wouldn't my day get any weirder?
"Everything alright here?" he asks, getting out of the car. I show him the box, explain the whole thing. He takes it from me, turns it over in his hands just like I did. Then he looks at me, and he says, "Well, this is a first." I mean, I could've told him that.

He takes the box, tells me to get back in my car, follow him to the station. I do. I mean, what else am I gonna do? I've just found a mysterious beeping box on the side of the highway. I'm not exactly in a position to argue with the cops.
We get to the station, he takes the box inside. I wait. And wait. And wait some more. Finally, he comes back out. "Weirdest thing," he says. "That's a bleep box." I stare at him. "A what now?" I ask. "A bleep box," he repeats. "They're used to test highway noise levels. Someone must've dropped it while they were working on the road."
I stare at him. A bleep box? I mean, really? After all that, it's just a bleep box? I should've known. I mean, it's not like I found an alien artifact or something. Although, to be fair, it did look like an alien artifact.
He hands me a card, tells me to call if I have any more questions. I thank him, get back in my car, and drive away. I mean, what else am I gonna do? I've just found a bleep box on the side of the highway. I'm not exactly in a position to argue with the universe.
So, that's my story. I mean, it's not exactly the most exciting thing that's ever happened. But it's not every day you find a mysterious beeping box on the side of the highway. I mean, unless you're me, I guess. I mean, I should probably just stick to the radio from now on. I mean, who knows what I'll find next?
