Only Fools And Horses Licensed To Drill

So, I was down the local the other day, you know, the Nag's Head, and who do I bump into but Del Boy himself, sitting there with a pint of Wall's finest. I says to him, "Del, what's a bloke like you doing in a place like this?" He looks at me, all serious-like, and says, "I'm here on official business, Rodney. I've been licensed to drill." Now, I thought he'd had a few too many, but no, turns out he was on the level.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "Rodney, what on earth is Del Boy licensed to drill?" Well, I was just as confused as you, mate. But it turns out, our beloved Trotter has set his sights on the big time. He's not just content with selling dodgy goods out of the back of a van anymore. No, he's gone and got himself a drilling license.
From Chasing Cars to Chasing Oil
You see, Del's got his eyes on the black stuff. Not the stuff he usually deals in, mind you. I'm talking about oil. He's got this grand plan to drill for oil in the back garden of the Nelson Mandela House. He reckons there's a fortune under there, just waiting for him to tap into it.
Must Read
I mean, I've heard some daft ideas in my time, but this one takes the biscuit. Del's always been one for a get-rich-quick scheme, but this is something else. I asked him, "Del, what makes you think there's oil under the flat?" He just grins at me and says, "It's all about location, location, location, Rodney. And this is the best location in the whole of Peckham."
Del's New Toy
So, there I was, thinking Del was having me on, when he whips out his phone and shows me a picture. There, in all its glory, was a drilling rig. A proper, fully-fledged drilling rig. I couldn't believe my eyes. "Where did you get that from, Del?" I asked him. He just winks at me and says, "I've got a mate who's got a mate who's got a mate..." You know how it goes.
Turns out, Del's been learning all about the oil drilling business. He's been watching YouTube videos, reading books, the works. He's even got himself a little office set up in the flat, complete with a whiteboard full of oil field diagrams. It's all very professional, I'll give him that.
But Will It Work?
Now, I'm all for Del having a go at something new. It's about time he moved on from the old chasing cars routine. But I can't help but think this oil drilling business is a bit of a long shot. I mean, Peckham's not exactly known for its oil reserves, is it?
Only Fools and Horses: Licensed to Drill (1984)
But Del's not one to be deterred. He's got his mind set on this, and who knows? Maybe there really is a fortune under the flat. Maybe Del's finally found his pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Or maybe, just maybe, he's about to make a right old omlette out of this.
Either way, I'll be there to support him. After all, he's my brother, and I owe him one. Or two. Or maybe a few more than that. But that's a story for another time.
So, there you have it, folks. Del Boy, the Peckham oil tycoon. It's not quite Only Fools and Horses, but it's certainly not The Apprentice either. I'll keep you updated on how it all goes. In the meantime, I'd better start looking for a job in the oil industry. You never know, I might just end up working for my own brother.
Until next time, this is Rodney, signing off.
