How Much Do Women Footballers Get Paid

So, How Much Do Women Footballers Get Paid? Let's Dish the Dirt!

Alright, let's dive into the world of women's football, where the grass is greener, and the paychecks are... well, they're getting there! You might be thinking, "Surely they can't make as much as the guys, right?" Well, hold onto your hats, because we're about to serve up some surprising facts!

Let's Start with the Big Guns: The US Women's National Team

You've probably heard about the USWNT - those badass ladies who took home the World Cup in 2019. Now, let's talk money. According to Forbes, the average salary for a USWNT player is around $220,000 per year. Not too shabby, huh? But here's where it gets interesting: their male counterparts, the US Men's National Team, make four times as much, on average. Whoa, hold the phone!

Now, before you start sharpening your pitchforks, let's remember that the men's team has a bigger, more lucrative market. But still, it's a pretty significant gap. And guess who's suing for equal pay? Yep, the USWNT! They're not messing around. They've even got a whole website dedicated to their fight. Talk about girl power!

What About the NWSL? (That's Women's Soccer in the US, FYI)

Alright, let's switch gears and talk about the NWSL. In 2020, the average salary was around $31,000. Now, that might not sound like a lot, but remember, these are professional athletes we're talking about. And it's actually more than the average American makes! Plus, some stars make a lot more - think around $400,000.

But here's the thing: most players don't make that much. In fact, about half of the league's players make under $20,000. So, while there are some big names raking in the dough, the majority of players are still fighting for better pay. It's a bit of a mixed bag, right?

And What About the Rest of the World?

Let's jet off to Europe, where the FA Women's Super League (that's England's top women's league) is booming. In 2020, the average salary was around $70,000. Not bad, huh? But here's where it gets quirky: some clubs have equal pay for their men's and women's teams! Yep, you read that right. Teams like Arsenal and Chelsea are leading the way. Go, girls!

But let's not forget about the rest of the world. In Australia, the average salary in their top league is around $50,000. In Germany, it's about $60,000. And in France, it's around $40,000. So, while the US and Europe are making strides, there's still a lot of work to be done worldwide.

So, Why Should We Care?

Well, aside from the fact that these women are absolute bosses on the field, they're also paving the way for future generations. They're fighting for equal pay, better conditions, and more recognition. And guess what? It's working. The NWSL has seen a massive increase in viewership and attendance since the USWNT's World Cup win. People are taking notice, and that's a good thing!

Plus, let's face it: watching women's football is just fun! It's fast-paced, exciting, and full of incredible athletes. So, why not show your support and cheer them on? After all, they're worth it!
