When Is Eid Likely To Be

Ever found yourself wondering, "When's Eid this year, and why does it seem to be a moving target?" Well, buckle up, my friend, 'cause we're about to dive into the fascinating world of lunar calendars and you'll see, it's not as tricky as it seems!

Why Eid's On The Move

First things first, Eid is based on the Islamic lunar calendar, which is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar we use every day. This means that every year, Eid shifts forward in the Gregorian calendar by about 10 days. It's like a fun game of calendar hide and seek, isn't it?

Now, you might be thinking, "But wait, sometimes Eid seems to jump back a bit!" And you're right! Every few years, there's a leap year in the Islamic calendar, just like in the Gregorian one. This leap year, called a 'leap day', adds an extra day to the calendar, making Eid take a little step backwards. Isn't that neat?

So, When's Eid This Year?

Alright, let's get down to business. Eid al-Fitr, the festival that marks the end of Ramadan, is expected to fall on the evening of May 2nd this year, insha'Allah (God willing). But remember, the exact date can vary by a day or two, depending on when the new moon is sighted. It's all about the moon, folks!

Eid al-Adha, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham's) sacrifice, is expected to fall on the evening of July 9th this year, insha'Allah. Again, the date can vary by a day or two, depending on the sighting of the new moon.
