First things first, Halloween is always celebrated on the 31st of October. Yes, you heard it right! It's not the 30th, not the 1st of November, but smack dab in the middle of those two. So, why this date, you ask?

Historical Shenanigans

Well, my friend, Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain. The Celts believed that on the night before the new year (which they celebrated on November 1st), the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. They thought that on that night, ghosts of the dead returned to earth.

To honor and appease these spirits, the Celts held a festival, offering up food and drink. They also built huge bonfires, where people would throw in crops, animals, and even their old clothes to symbolize the end of summer and the harvest. Over time, this festival evolved into what we now know as Halloween.

Trick or Treat!

Now that we've got the history lesson out of the way, let's talk about the fun stuff! Halloween as we know it today is all about dressing up, trick-or-treating, carving jack-o'-lanterns, and watching scary movies. But did you know that the tradition of 'trick or treat' comes from the medieval practice of 'souling'?

On All Souls' Day, poor people would go door-to-door offering prayers for the dead in exchange for soul cakes. This tradition eventually evolved into the modern-day 'trick or treat' we know and love.

When Does the Party Start?

You might be wondering, "When can I start planning my Halloween party?" Well, while the official date is October 31st, the fun usually starts much earlier. Stores begin stocking up on costumes and decorations in September, and many cities host Halloween events throughout the month.
