Is The Line Of Duty A True Story

Ever found yourself binge-watching Line of Duty, thinking, "Wow, this is so intense, it's gotta be based on a true story, right?" Well, grab your popcorn, 'cause we're diving in to find out!

So, is it?

Short answer? Not entirely. But hold your horses, 'cause it's not as simple as that.

See, Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio is a master of weaving real-life events and themes into his stories. It's like he's playing a big game of 'One of these things is not like the other' with us, and we're all hooked!

Real-life Inspiration

Mercurio has admitted that some episodes were inspired by real-life events. For instance, the Operation Tiberius storyline in Series 4? That was a nod to the real-life Operation Elveden, where journalists were accused of paying police for stories.

And the Undercover Policing Inquiry that's been buzzing around the show? That's a reference to the actual Undercover Policing Inquiry happening in the UK, investigating police spies infiltrating activist groups.

But wait, there's more!

Mercurio also loves throwing in little Easter eggs for us to find. Like when AC-12 raided a house with a Banksy print on the wall. That was a shout-out to the real-life Banksy artwork stolen from a London gallery!

And who could forget the time they mentioned Balaclava Steve? That was a cheeky nod to the real-life Balaclava Steve, who became an internet sensation during the 2011 London riots.
