So, there I was, scrolling through my Instagram feed, when a post from my old high school drama club popped up. "Guess who's putting on a musical this year? Kylie Minogue's 'I Should Be So Lucky'!" I nearly choked on my coffee. I mean, who would've thought that the Aussie pop princess's 80s hit would be the next big thing in musical theatre?
But hey, stranger things have happened, right? And besides, it's not like Kylie's the first pop star to make the leap to the stage. Remember Mamma Mia!? ABBA's music took the West End and Broadway by storm. So, why not Kylie?
From Pop Princess to Stage Sensation
Now, I'm no expert on musical theatre, but I do know a catchy tune when I hear one. And let's face it, Kylie's got a back catalog that's just begging to be turned into a musical. 'I Should Be So Lucky' might not be the obvious choice, but it's a start. And who knows? Maybe next year we'll be seeing 'Can't Get You Out of My Head: The Musical'.
Must Read
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. 'I Should Be So Lucky' is the one we're dealing with here. And from what I've heard, it's not just a cash grab. The creative team behind it have actually put some thought into the story. It's not just a collection of Kylie's hits strung together with a flimsy plot. No, no, no. This is a fully-fledged musical with a story that's supposed to make sense. Well, as much sense as a musical about a pop star's rise to fame can make, I suppose.

More Than Just a Gimmick
And you know what? That's what's got me intrigued. Because let's face it, when we first heard about this, a lot of us probably rolled our eyes. I mean, it's easy to dismiss something like this as just a gimmick. But what if it's not? What if 'I Should Be So Lucky' is actually a decent musical with a compelling story and great songs?
I mean, think about it. Kylie's had an incredible career. She's been through ups and downs, she's reinvented herself time and time again. There's definitely a story there, right? And if anyone can tell it, it's the team behind this musical. They've got a lot to prove, and I've got a feeling they're going to do just that.

So, Should You Be So Lucky to See It?
Now, I know what you're thinking. "This sounds interesting, but is it actually any good?" Well, friend, I wish I could tell you. But as much as I'd love to, I haven't seen it yet. I'm just as much in the dark as you are. But you know what? I'm excited. I'm excited to see if this musical can live up to the hype, if it can prove that Kylie's music is more than just a soundtrack to our childhoods.
So, will I be seeing you at the theatre? Will you be taking a chance on 'I Should Be So Lucky'? I hope so. Because who knows? Maybe it'll be the start of something big. Maybe it'll be the next big thing in musical theatre. And if it's not? Well, at least we'll have had a good time singing along to 'I Should Be So Lucky', right?
