How I Knew I Had Stomach Cancer

So, there I was, minding my own business, when I felt this weird twinge in my tummy. Now, I'm not one to panic, right? I mean, it's just a little twinge. But then, it started happening more often. Like, every time I ate. And I'm Italian, so you know I love my food. So, something's not right here.

When Ignoring It Just Won't Do

I tried to brush it off, you know? Maybe it's just indigestion. Maybe I ate too many of Nonna's lasagna leftovers. But then, I started feeling tired all the time. Like, I could sleep through an entire episode of This Is Us, and that's saying something, right?

I started losing weight too. I mean, who doesn't want to drop a few pounds? But not like this. I looked like I was auditioning for a role in Prison Break. And let me tell you, my jeans were not happy about it.

When Google Becomes Your Doctor

I started Googling my symptoms. Big mistake. You know what Google is? It's the world's worst hypochondriac. I went from 'I might have a stomach bug' to 'I'm definitely dying of some rare, incurable disease' in about 0.2 seconds.

But then, I saw it. Stomach cancer. I mean, it was right there, staring me in the face. I felt like I was in an episode of House. You know, the one where they diagnose everyone with some crazy disease.

When It's Time to See a Real Doctor

I made an appointment with my doctor. I was nervous, but I tried to keep it light. I mean, what's the worst that could happen, right? He could tell me I have a week to live? Okay, maybe not the best joke.

He listened to me, poked and prodded, and then sent me for some tests. I won't lie, I was scared. But I tried to keep my spirits up. I mean, I've faced worse, right? Like that time I had to present a project in front of the whole class. Remember that, terrifying?

When the Results Are In

The wait for the results was brutal. I tried to distract myself. I binge-watched Stranger Things, I ate all the ice cream in the freezer (not recommended, by the way), I even started learning a new language on Duolingo. Anything to keep my mind off it.

And then, the call came. It was positive. But not the kind of positive I was hoping for. I had stomach cancer.

When Life Gives You Lemons

I won't lie, it was a tough pill to swallow. Pun intended. But you know what? I'm still here. I fought it. I'm fighting it. And I'm winning. I'm winning because I didn't ignore the signs. I'm winning because I got help. I'm winning because I'm a fighter.

So, if you're feeling something weird, don't ignore it. Don't be like me, waiting until I looked like I was auditioning for a role in Prison Break. Get it checked out. Trust me, it's better to be safe than sorry. And who knows, maybe you'll just need a good old-fashioned laxative. Here's hoping, right?

And remember, life's full of surprises. Some are good, some are bad. But it's how we handle them that makes us who we are. So, chin up, buttercup. You've got this.
