Halloween 2022 falls on a Monday, the 31st of October. Yes, you heard it right! This year, the ghosts and goblins get to party on a weekday. But don't worry, the fun doesn't stop at sunset. Towns across the globe will be buzzing with trick-or-treaters and eerie events all month long.

Why October 31st, You Ask?

Halloween's date is no trick question. It's always on October 31st, no matter what day of the week it lands on. This ancient Celtic festival, known as Samhain, marked the end of summer and the harvest season. The Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred, allowing ghosts to return to earth.

Fun Facts and Cultural Bites

Did you know that Jack-o'-lanterns originally were made from turnips, beets, or potatoes in Ireland? Pumpkins were a New World discovery, and when Irish immigrants arrived in America, they found the perfect carving canvas in the pumpkin.

And speaking of pumpkins, the world's heaviest pumpkin was grown by Mathias Willemijns of Belgium in 2016. It weighed in at a whopping 2,624.6 pounds! Now that's a serious jack-o'-lantern!
