Best Places To Camp In England

You know, I've always been a bit of a nomad at heart. As a kid, I'd spend hours in the backyard, pitching my tent, cooking up instant noodles on a tiny camping stove, and telling myself I was off on a grand adventure. Fast forward a few decades, and not much has changed. I still love the great outdoors, and I've discovered that England, with its rich history, stunning landscapes, and friendly folk, is a camper's paradise.

So, grab your wellies, pack your tent, and let's hit the road. Here are some of the best places to camp in England, from the rolling hills of the Cotswolds to the rugged coastlines of Cornwall.

Cotswolds: The Countryside Dream

Let's kick things off with the Cotswolds, shall we? This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is like something straight out of a Jane Austen novel. Think rolling hills, golden stone villages, and more sheep than you can shake a stick at.

One of my favorite campsites here is Broadway's Meadows Camping. It's a family-run site with beautiful views, a farm shop for all your camping essentials, and even a pub within walking distance. Pitches are spacious, and the facilities are spotless. It's the perfect base for exploring the Cotswolds.

Lake District: The Adventure Awaits

Now, if you're after a bit more of an adventure, the Lake District is the place for you. With its towering fells, serene lakes, and quaint villages, it's no wonder this national park is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

For a campsite with a view, you can't beat Waterside House Campsite in the Newlands Valley. It's right on the edge of Derwentwater, with stunning views of Catbells and the surrounding fells. Plus, it's a great base for hiking, with several popular routes starting right from the campsite.

Cornwall: The Surfer's Paradise

Fancy a bit of sun, sea, and sand? Then head down to Cornwall. This southwestern tip of England is famous for its stunning coastline, beautiful beaches, and world-class surfing.

One of the best campsites in Cornwall has to be Trevarthen Farm near St Ives. It's a family-run site with a relaxed, friendly vibe, and it's just a short drive from some of Cornwall's most beautiful beaches. Plus, they have a pizza oven on site, which is always a winner in my book.

Yorkshire Dales: The Hidden Gem

Now, I know what you're thinking. "But what about the Yorkshire Dales?" Well, don't worry, I haven't forgotten about this hidden gem. The Dales are home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in England, with their rolling hills, picturesque villages, and ancient sites.

For a campsite that's off the beaten track, try Kettlewell Camping in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. It's a small, family-run site with a peaceful atmosphere, and it's the perfect base for exploring the Dales. Plus, the nearby village of Kettlewell is a great spot for a pint or two.

London: The City Break

And finally, let's not forget about London. Yes, you can camp in the city too! If you fancy a bit of glamping, The Camping and Caravanning Club's London Lee Valley site is a great option. It's just a stone's throw from the city center, but it feels a world away with its peaceful lakeside setting.

So there you have it, folks. Whether you're after a countryside retreat, an adventure in the hills, or a city break with a difference, England has it all. So pack your bags, grab your tent, and let's hit the road. The great outdoors awaits!
