Leeseo's Debut: A Blast from the Past

Ever wondered about the age of your favorite K-pop idol when they first stepped into the spotlight? Let's take a stroll down memory lane and find out how old Leeseo was when she debuted with Produce 101.

Before we dive in, let's set the scene. It's 2016, and the K-pop landscape is about to be shaken up by a new reality show. Produce 101, a survival program that would launch the careers of some of the biggest names in K-pop, is about to air its first episode. Among the 101 trainees vying for a spot in the final girl group, one name stands out: Leeseo.

Leeseo's Journey Begins

Leeseo, born Kim Chae-won on April 10, 1997, was just 19 years old when she auditioned for Produce 101. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Leeseo had already made a name for herself as a trainee under Pledis Entertainment, the same company that managed SEVENTEEN.

But what made Leeseo stand out wasn't just her age or her background. It was her charisma, her talent, and her unique charm that captured the hearts of viewers and judges alike. Remember, this was the era of Gfriend's "Rough" and BTS's "Fire," and Leeseo was ready to make her mark.

Debuting with IOI

After weeks of intense competition, Leeseo placed 11th in the final rankings, securing her spot in the project girl group IOI. On May 4, 2016, just a month after her 19th birthday, Leeseo debuted with IOI and their hit single Crush.

Fun fact: Leeseo wasn't the youngest member of IOI. That title went to Zhou Jieqiong, also known as Lay Zhang's little sister, who was just 16 at the time. But despite her age, Leeseo held her own, showcasing her powerful vocals and captivating stage presence.
