Back to the '90s

Picture this: it's 1996, the year Rent first hit the Broadway stage. Idina Menzel, our leading lady, was just a fresh-faced 25-year-old. Can you believe it?

Now, you might be thinking, "25? That's practically a baby in Broadway years!" But hold onto your seats, because Menzel wasn't just any Broadway newbie. She was already making waves as the original Maureen Johnson in the groundbreaking musical.

From Broadway to the Big Screen

Fast forward to 2005, when the Rent movie adaptation hit theaters. Menzel, now a seasoned 34-year-old, reprised her role as Maureen. By this time, she had already made her mark on Broadway with her powerhouse vocals in Wicked.

Fun fact: Menzel's rendition of "Defying Gravity" from Wicked is one of the most popular songs on Broadway, with over 100 million views on YouTube. Talk about leaving a lasting impact!
