How Old Is Sharon Davies Swimmer

You know, I was at the local pool the other day, doing my usual laps, when I noticed a familiar face in the lane next to me. It was Sharon Davies, the swimming legend! I mean, I've seen her on TV, but to see her slicing through the water right next to me, well, that was something else. I couldn't help but wonder, how old is Sharon Davies? She sure doesn't swim like she's pushing 70!

So, I decided to do a little digging. You know, for science. Or, you know, just because I'm curious. Turns out, Sharon Davies was born on March 15, 1958. That makes her, drumroll please, 64 years young! I know, right? She's older than my mom, and she's still giving me a run for my money in the pool.

From the '70s to the '90s, Sharon Davies was a force to be reckoned with

Sharon's been swimming competitively since she was a teenager. She started making waves in the '70s, and by the time the '80s rolled around, she was a household name. She won bronze in the 200m butterfly at the '80 Moscow Olympics, and then, four years later, she took home silver in the same event at the '84 Los Angeles Olympics. Not too shabby, huh?

But here's where it gets really interesting. Sharon didn't just compete in one or two Olympics. Oh no, she was a four-time Olympian! She swam in the '80, '84, '88, and '92 Games. That's right, she was still competing at the highest level in her early 30s. I don't know about you, but I can barely touch my toes at that age!

So, what's her secret?

Well, I wish I could tell you it's a magical potion or some sort of time-traveling training regime. But, alas, it's not. Sharon's secret is a combination of hard work, dedication, and a whole lot of passion for the sport. She's been swimming her whole life, and she's not about to stop now. She told the BBC in a recent interview, "I still love being in the water, I still love the feeling of swimming fast, and I still love the competition."

And let's not forget about her incredible work ethic. Sharon's not one of those athletes who just coasts by on talent alone. She's been known to put in some serious mileage in the pool, even in her later years. I mean, the woman's still swimming 30-40km a week! That's more than some of us do in a month!

Age is just a number, right?

Sharon Davies is living proof that age is just a number. She's still swimming, still competing, and still inspiring people like me (and probably you too) to get in the pool and push ourselves a little harder. So, the next time you find yourself making excuses not to exercise, remember Sharon. Remember that she's out there, at 64, still swimming like a champ.

And who knows? Maybe we'll see her at the next Olympics. Stranger things have happened, right? After all, she's already defied the odds once or twice. So, here's to you, Sharon Davies. Keep swimming, and keep inspiring us all!
