Time Flies When You're Surviving the Apocalypse
Rick Grimes, played by the ever-dashing Andrew Lincoln, first stumbled onto our screens in 2010. Now, that's a decade ago, folks! But how old is Rick himself? Well, that's where things get a bit tricky.
Age is Just a Number... Until It's Not
See, The Walking Dead doesn't exactly follow a linear timeline. It's more like a... well, a walking timeline. Rick's age isn't explicitly stated, but we can do some sleuthing.
Must Read
Rick is a sheriff from Kentucky, and he's got a family. We meet his son, Carl, who's around 12 when the apocalypse hits. Now, Rick mentions Carl's birthday a couple of times. Let's do some math!
Birthday Math: The Apocalypse Edition
Carl's birthday is in October. In the first episode, we see a calendar that shows it's October 13th. Rick wakes up from his coma on October 15th. So, Carl is 12 years and 3 days old when the world ends.
The Subtle Clues Hidden in The Walking Dead’s Explosive Premiere
Now, let's fast-forward. In season 8, we learn that Carl is 15. That means four years have passed in the apocalypse. So, Rick has been fighting walkers for four years by then.
But Wait, There's More!
Here's where it gets interesting. In the comics, Rick ages differently. He's older when the apocalypse starts, and he's got a different family dynamic. But hey, this is TV, not comics!

Plus, let's not forget the time jump at the start of season 9. Six years pass in a blink, and Rick's beard gets even more glorious. But his age? Still a mystery!
Why Does It Matter?
Who cares about Rick's age, right? Well, it's fun to ponder! It's like a game of 'Guess the Sheriff's Age' while watching a zombie massacre. Plus, it's a reminder that time keeps ticking, even in the apocalypse.
So, there you have it. Rick Grimes is... well, he's old enough to have seen some things. And that's all that matters in the world of The Walking Dead.
