How Old Is Crutchie In Newsies

Alright, gather 'round, folks! Let's dive into a question that's been tickling the curiosity of Newsies fans everywhere: just how old is our beloved Crutchie?

Now, before we get started, let's set the scene. We're talking about the 1992 Disney musical, "Newsies," a tale of newsboys striking against unfair wages in turn-of-the-century New York City. It's a story packed with energy, heart, and some killer dance moves.

So, who's Crutchie?

Crutchie, played by the talented Bill Pullman, is the newsboy with a heart of gold and a busted leg. He's the moral compass of the group, always ready with a wise word or a comforting hug. But how old is he?

Let's do some sleuthing!

First off, the movie is set in 1899. Crutchie, with his wisdom and leadership, seems like he's a bit older than the other newsies. But how much older?

We know that the main character, Jack Kelly, is around 17. Crutchie, with his more mature demeanor, could be anywhere from late teens to early twenties. But let's not forget, Pullman was in his early thirties when the movie was made, so he was playing a character quite a bit younger than himself.

Now, you might be thinking, "But what about the stage adaptation? Did they age Crutchie up?" Well, they did! In the 2012 Broadway musical, Crutchie is played by a slightly older actor, and the character is written to be in his late twenties. But remember, the stage show is a different beast from the movie, with its own creative liberties.
