How Old Is Belle In Artful Dodger

So, I was at this art gallery the other day, right? You know the one, with the fancy name and the even fancier prices for coffee. I was there because my friend, let's call her Artful Dodger, insisted that I'd love this new exhibition. She's an art buff, always dragging me to these places, and I must admit, I've seen some pretty cool stuff because of her.

Anyway, there I was, standing in front of this massive painting. It was one of those old-school pieces, you know, with the golden frame and the fancy dress. The painting was of a young woman, and she was holding a book. Now, I'm no art expert, but even I could tell that this wasn't just any book. It was a very old book, the kind that probably had a curse or a prophecy written in it.

I turned to Dodger, who was busy scribbling notes in her little art journal, and I said, "Hey, how old do you think this Belle chick is?" She looked at me like I'd just asked her to solve a complex math problem. "Belle?" she said, "You mean Belle from Beauty and the Beast?"

I felt my face heat up. "No, no," I stammered, "I mean, the Belle in this painting. You know, the one holding the book." Dodger raised an eyebrow, then looked at the painting, then back at me. "You do realize," she said, "that this is a painting of young Belle from the fairy tale, right?"

Dodger leaned back, thinking. "Well," she said, "it's not explicitly stated in the original tale. But if we go by the Disney adaptation, Belle is supposed to be around 17 or 18. But remember, that's just a modern interpretation. In the original tale, she could be anywhere from 15 to 20, depending on the version you're reading."

I nodded, pretending to know what she was talking about. But really, I was just impressed that she knew all this. I mean, I know my friend is an art nerd, but this was next level. I decided to test her. "So, what about the Beast then?" I asked, "How old is he?"

Dodger didn't miss a beat. "The Beast's age varies too," she said, "But in the Disney version, he's 11 when he's cursed, and he remains that age for the next ten years. So, when he meets Belle, he's 21 in human years."

I whistled, impressed. "Wow, so he's like, what, 10 years older than Belle?" I said. Dodger nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Yep," she said, "And that's why their relationship is so complicated. Age gap and all that."

I laughed, shaking my head. "You know too much, Dodger," I said. She just grinned, closing her journal. "That's why you keep me around," she said, "To educate the masses."

And you know what? She's right. I mean, sure, I could've looked up Belle's age on the internet. But where's the fun in that? No, it's much better to learn these things from a friend who's passionate about it. Plus, it makes for a great story. You know, the one about how I stood in an art gallery, looking at a painting of Belle, and asking how old she was. Classic me, right?
