How Much Does Goodell Make A Year

Ever wondered how much the big boss of the NFL, Roger Goodell, rakes in every year? I mean, he's the one making sure our Sundays are filled with touchdowns and end zone dances, right?

Well, buckle up, 'cause we're diving into the fascinating world of NFL commissioner salaries. And spoiler alert: it's a pretty penny!

Let's Talk Dough

Alright, so here's the deal. According to Forbes, in 2020, Goodell made a cool $49.95 million. That's right, almost $50 million! Now, before you start thinking about how many pizzas that could buy (trust me, I've done the math), let's break it down.

Goodell's salary is made up of his base salary, bonuses, and other forms of compensation. His base salary alone was around $34.95 million. Now, that's more than the GDP of some small countries, but hey, running the NFL isn't a small task either.

But Wait, There's More

Now, you might be thinking, "That's a lot, but what does he actually do to earn that much?" Well, Goodell's job is like being the CEO of a massive corporation. He's responsible for the NFL's day-to-day operations, negotiating TV deals, and making sure the league runs smoothly.

He also plays a big role in player discipline and safety initiatives. So, it's not just about the glitz and glamour of game day. It's a lot of behind-the-scenes work too.

How Does That Stack Up?

Now, let's put that salary into perspective. Goodell's 2020 earnings were more than the combined salaries of the top 5 highest-paid NFL players that year. Yes, you read that right. More than five top players!

But here's the thing: the NFL is a $16 billion business. It's one of the most valuable sports leagues in the world. So, while Goodell's salary might seem like a lot, it's also a reflection of the league's massive revenue.

What About Other Commissioners?

Curious about how Goodell's salary compares to other sports commissioners? Well, he's right up there. In 2020, the NBA's Adam Silver made around $30 million, and the MLB's Rob Manfred made about $11 million. So, Goodell's salary is pretty much in a league of its own.

But remember, these guys are at the helm of multi-billion dollar industries. They're not just calling plays on the sidelines, they're navigating complex business landscapes.

So, Is It Worth It?

That's a tough one. On one hand, Goodell's salary is astronomical. It's more than most of us will make in a lifetime. On the other hand, he's responsible for one of the most popular sports leagues in the world. He's dealing with complex issues, from player safety to labor negotiations.

At the end of the day, it's up to you to decide if Goodell's salary is justified. But one thing's for sure: the NFL wouldn't be the same without him. And neither would our Sundays.

So, the next time you're cheering on your favorite team, remember the man behind the scenes. The one making sure the show goes on, and raking in a pretty penny while he's at it.
