From the Farm to the Ring

George Steele wasn't always the wild, hairy beast you saw in the ring. Nope, he started out as a farm boy in Michigan. Can you imagine little George milking cows and feeding chickens? I bet he was a gentle giant even back then!

But farming life wasn't for him. He joined the army, served his country, and then, get this, he became a teacher! Yep, you heard it right. The Animal was teaching kids before he was tearing up wrestling rings. Now that's a career change!

Enter: The Animal

So, how did George become "The Animal"? Well, it all started when he was wrestling under his real name, Jim Myers. But one day, promoter Vince McMahon Sr. looked at him and said, "You know what, Jim? You look like an animal. Why not wrestle as one?" And just like that, The Animal was born!

And boy, did he embrace that character! He'd charge into the ring, rip off turnbuckles with his teeth, and even speak in a language that sounded like a mix of grunts and growls. It was chaos, and the crowd loved it!
